Wedding Skincare Prep
Now is as good a time as any…
With Spring on it’s way and your wedding’s all fast approaching, now is the time to get your skincare routine perfected ready for your make up artist to work their magic!
Flawless, dewy and wedding ready skin takes time. So we got in touch with one of our favourite local wedding make up artists, Nikki Webb, to ask her for her top tips on getting your skincare routine just right in time for your wedding.
So here we go, we’re keeping it simple with Nikki’s top 5 skincare tips…
6 Months Before…
Cleanse, tone, moisturise & repeat. Every. Single. Day.
This one is an absolute must. Unless you already have your morning and nighttime routine skin care perfected, then now is the time to start. Starting it at least 6 months before will give you plenty of time to find what’s right for you and your skin and allows your skin enough time to settle and adapt to it.
Everyone’s skin is different and it may take a bit of trial and error but you will find what’s right for you and your skin.
Along with your daily cleanse, tone and moisturise routine, Nikki also recommends to find a good face mask to control any problem areas. See it as your weekly or monthly treat to yourself and if you want to make it extra special, a monthly facial will be the ultimate pre wedding relaxation treat and also help to relieve any stress you might have built up. You skin will also love you for it!
The dreaded ‘friend’…
Let’s face it, acne & spots can become a pre wedding nightmare.
Especially in the final few days running up to the big day when the dreaded ‘friend’ appears big, red and angry the night or so before. (We can thank excitement, stress and pre wedding nerves for that!) If this happens to you though, do not panic, Nikki swears by and is obsessed with the trusty Sudocrem or Metanium (nappy cream to you and me). Pop some of that on overnight to control the redness and watch those pests go away.
I’ve even read on multiple occasions that the Queen of fashion, Victoria Beckham, even swears by the British cult beauty product that Sudocrem is!
Breathe…
Let your skin breathe!
Wearing a full face of make up every single day isn’t the best for you skin. Every now and then make sure you let it rest by going make up free. If you’re anything like me those dreaded dark circles follow you around regardless of your skincare routine so Nikki suggested a concealer is an amazing must have item in your make up bag. Just pop a little concealer in the areas you desire for a fresh, no make up, make up look!
Skin care MUST HAVE…
What one item does Nikki love the most?
Ok so she couldn’t name just one and had to go with her two favourtie products. Charlotte Tilbury Eye Cream & Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream are Nikki’s absolute must haves for a great skin care routine. If she has very little time in the morning or just simply can’t be bothered to do her full routine she will ALWAYS make a point of using both of these items.
Why the eye cream? Simple really, a good under eye cream helps those fine lines more than we give them credit for. And after many years in the industry and many products later, this is by her favourite.
According to their website, the Magic Cream is just what it says on the pot, a bit of magic for your skin!
“Charlotte’s Magic Cream is perfect for turning around dull skin with its intensely moisturising formula. Your skin will feel deeply nourished and glowing, as well as softer and smoother. This makes it the perfect base for your makeup, because you can’t have beautiful makeup without a beautiful canvas! 100% of users agreed their tired, dull skin was INSTANTLY transformed!”
It may be a little on the pricey side but it’s so so worth it. Nothing more to be said, it’s already in my shopping basket!
T-Zone advice…
Is your t-zone a problem area for you?
If the answer is yes then Nikki’s top tip is to do the opposite of what you might think you should do. And that is to avoid putting too many lotions and potions in this area. I know think they fix it but they can often just add to the problem and help your make up just slide off faster.
If you must, prep your skin with a mattifying primer in this area before your make up to help eliminate the problem!
“Happy new skin care routine!”
