9 Things Couples Often Forget

THINGS MOST OFTEN FORGOTTEN…

On this month’s Weddings & Wine LIVE we talked all about the 9 things couples quite often forget or sometimes don’t even consider doing in the run up to and on their wedding day!

Here’s our top 8, with a bonus 9th one (aimed mainly at the ladies) that spring to mind to tick off in order to keep you cool and calm on your wedding day…

1. BOOK YOUR REGISTRARs

This is an absolute must and one that should be done as early as possible. And after the craziness of 2020 the registrars are facing a huge backlog everywhere and on some dates, limited availability. So get in there quickly and liase with your venue to ensure the times they’ve offered you will work for them too.

2. Get wedding insurance

In our T&C’s we state that we advise all our wedding couples to take out wedding insurance. It can cost as little as less than £100 and if 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that we can never be too prepared for what might happen. We know that it can be tricky at present to find anywhere selling new policies but hang in there, it can be taken out at any time and they will start becoming available again soon.

3. Delegate jobs to your wedding party throughout the day

Your wedding party aren’t by your sides just to make sure you look fabulous and show up on time, they’re there to support you and help keep you calm. So a week/ few days before, have a chat with them and give them a list of things to help you with on the day. It could be something as little as making sure you actually eat some breakfast to putting a groomsman in charge of gathering family members and friends when they’re needed for photos!

4. Touch base with your suppliers a week or so before

A quick call or email to say “Just checking everything is good to go for Saturday?” will do. They’re professionals so will have everything on board but it’ll give you the peace of mind that you’ve made a final check with everyone.

5. Schedule time buffers into your morning for your suppliers

This is aimed mainly at hair & make-up and photographers. You’ll be better off being ready to go a good 20-30 minutes before you actually need to be so you stay nice and relaxed. So if you need to be ready for 1:15pm for a 1:30pm ceremony, then make sure you’ve told hair and make-up 12:45pm, giving you 20 minues for photos and 10 minutes to enjoy a glass of bubbly!

6. getting in your dress

Make sure whoever is getting you in your dress on the day knows exactly how to do it and do it properly at that. Some dresses (lace up back/ corset style in particular) have to be put on a certain way and you fastened into it a certain way to fit and flatter the body correctly. Your dress supplier will be able to show you and could even video it for the person helping you to watch it back.

7. Pack a wedding day emergency kit

A little bag of essentials for ‘just in case’ moments. Think…

  • Plasters

  • Rennies (if you suffer from heartburn)

  • Scissors

  • Tit tape

  • Paracetamol

  • Mints

  • Tissues

  • ‘Party Feet’ insoles for your shoes

  • Lipstick to top up throughout the day

  • Deodorant

This list could be endless to be honest!

8. Have a plan for your photographer beforehand

In your final meeting with your photographer make sure you go through the photos you MUST get on the day. If you really want a photo in a certain spot at your venue make sure he has them all in a list. You’ll be in such a bubble on the day you’ll forget without the list. Make sure a groomsman who knows most guests (or is confident to ask about) has a copy of this list to aid the photographer in getting them done quickly and efficiently.

9. Finally… shoes!!

Most brides (and grooms) get new shoes for their wedding day. So make sure you wear them in a little before your wedding day to avoid super painful feet just hours into your day. Also there’s no harm in taking a comfy back up to slip on in the evening under your dress! No one will ever know and your dance moves will be on point!!
