DAY 7 - VENUE HUNTING
Welcome to the half way point and what a great topic we’ve got for you today! Today is the start of your all important venue hunt. We’ve already figured out that on average your wedding venue takes up about 52% of your total budget so research and the right decision for you as a couple is key. Lets get to it…
With hundreds of venues to choose from, online wedding tools such as Bridebook and Hitched are perfect to see them all in one place - so your first task is to create an account.
Also I bet you didn’t realise just how many different types of venues there were until now either. You’ve got…
Country or Manor Houses (like ours)
Barns
Castles
Stately Homes
Outdoor/ Marquees
City centre
Ultra modern
Historic
Beaches and costal
The list goes on!
With so many venues to choose from, you can’t go and see them all in person but you can tell a lot about a venue from their online presence. Some venues you will know straight away aren’t for you but for the ones you like the look of and want to know more, check out the following:
Delve into their websites and Bridebook/ Hitched profiles
Read the reviews (again Bridebook & Hitched are great for these)
Follow them on social media
Trawl through any photos and videos to really get a feel for each venue
Watch any virtual tours that may have available - these are an amazing way to get a real feel for a venue without actually leaving your house! We filmed ours, 84 Questions, in the style of Vogue’s 73 Questions and we think it gives a great insight into our venue and also you get to meet us too!
Now you’ve got your (probably long) list of venues you initially like, it’s time to refer back to your list of priorities from a few days ago. Taking into account things you prioritised such as location/ guest accommodation/ type of venue etc, it’s now time to filter them out and shortlist your favourite, let’s say 12 venues, that you would like to learn more about! If you’ve got a much smaller shortlist, no problem at all, if anything, you’ll probably have made things a little easier for yourself over the next couple of days.
Shortlist made - fab work! Day 8 is going to be all about that initial quote. So take a look for the next step of your first 12 days of wedding planning and grab that notebook - you’ll need your dates and guest numbers at the ready!
If you like what you see so far, then we’ve plenty more for you…

Our lovely Katie comes from a fashion background, so not only very creative and organised but super passionate about weddings. A winning combination!
She loves it when couples push the boundaries and try different ideas for their weddings, so don’t be scared to ask her to create any weird and wonderful concepts you may have!
What is Katie’s favourite part of a wedding? “When the wedding couple come out of the ceremony room once they are married, they are so happy and it’s lovely being one of the first people to congratulate them!”
What else should we know about Katie? She is a Mum to some very cute kitties!
